Hackingblogs: Google is expiring. Google can not be stopped. It feels like both of those things are true right now for some reason. OpenAI’s new SearchGPT appears to be one of the solutions that could potentially challenge Google Search as the web’s central search engine for the first time in over ten years.
OpenAI presents SearchGPT, an AI-powered search engine that will compete with Google and Perplexity. It will initially be released as a prototype and later be integrated into ChatGPT.The highly anticipated launch of SearchGPT, an AI-powered search engine that provides real-time access to information on the internet, by OpenAI is being made public.
“What are you looking for?” appears in a huge textbox at the top of the search engine. However, SearchGPT attempts to arrange and make sense of the links rather than just providing a bare list of them. In one instance from OpenAI, the search engine provides a summary of its discoveries regarding music festivals, followed by brief descriptions of the events and an attribution link.
For present, SearchGPT is merely a “prototype.” The Verge was told by OpenAI spokesperson Kayla Wood that the service, which is powered by the GPT-4 family of models, would only be available to 10,000 test users at launch. According to Wood, OpenAI uses direct content feeds and collaborates with outside partners to provide its search results. Eventually, the search functions should be integrated right into ChatGPT.
“SearchGPT is designed to help users connect with publishers by prominently citing and linking to them in searches,”
According to OpenAI’s blog post.
“AI search is going to become one of the key ways that people navigate the internet, and it’s crucial, in these early days, that the technology is built in a way that values, respects, and protects journalism and publishers. We look forward to partnering with OpenAI in the process, and creating a new way for readers to discover The Atlantic.”
Nicholas Thompson, CEO of The Atlantic
Google’s dominance in the search business is under danger from the new offering.
Similar to ChatGPT, SearchGPT enables users to ask queries in natural language and receive current responses along with connections to understandable, appropriate resources. In contrast to ChatGPT, which frequently uses dated data, SearchGPT offers up-to-date information.
According to the company’s blog post, finding relevant results when conducting an online search might be time-consuming and require several tries. Finding the information you need will be quicker and simpler if real-time internet data is used to enhance the models’ conversational skills.
News publishers were especially worried about the launch of Google’s service because they thought AI summaries would make it unnecessary to visit pages in order to obtain information, which could result in a decrease in traffic to their websites. There may be similar issues with the search engine developed by OpenAI.
“Sam and the truly talented team at OpenAI innately understand that for AI-powered search to be effective, it must be founded on the highest-quality, most reliable information furnished by trusted sources. For the heavens to be in equilibrium, the relationship between technology and content must be symbiotic and provenance must be protected.”
